artist collective island6
Tally Beck Contemporary Gallery, 42 Rivington St, NYC
This exhibition explores the realties and myths of 1930s Shanghai, focusing on female sexuality and issues of exoticism, eroticism and Orientalism. Combining videographic technology with LED lights and found objects such as furniture and décor elements, the collective produces animated, sociohistorical vignettes of 1930s Shanghai and the collision of Chinese and colonial cultures.
